Presented here is a stunning example of a custom made Thedi leather jacket. Thedi has long been known as a trailblazer in the leather jacket world, consistently refining vintage designs and producing some of the best cuts of our time. This jacket is a fully custom design unique to Thedi, executed in the classic highwayman or single rider cut that was popular during the 1930s and early 1940s, reinterpreted with a distinctive Thedi twist.

The jacket features a beautiful single rider collar that tapers into a sleek straight zip design, finished with a large antique bronze Italian custom “Thedi” zipper that complements the jacket perfectly. On the chest is a horizontal pocket with a loop and chain zipper, ideal for secure storage. At the waist are two slanted open handwarmer pockets, with two flapped cargo pockets positioned above them, a detail inspired by 1930s aviator jackets. At the back hem are two antique bronze fasteners that allow the jacket to be tapered, while the waist features a striking half belt design with two pleats above it, enhancing both fit and silhouette.

The interior is lined in quilted satin, providing warmth and comfort, and includes a zippered interior storage pocket. At the top of the liner is a metal chained hanger loop decoration, a beautiful Art Deco detail that reflects the strong 1930s influence throughout the jacket. Hidden inside the cuffs are ribbed storm cuffs that seal warmth inside the jacket while keeping the cold out. The leather is a stunning vegetable tanned buffalo hide with rich texture and patina. It is thick yet remarkably pliable, making it extremely comfortable to wear.

This jacket is an outstanding everyday wearer. With its chosen lining and storm cuffs, it performs exceptionally well in colder weather, resulting in a very well rounded piece. Thedi no longer produces this design, and acquiring it today would require a full custom order, one can only imagine the cost.

Thedi jackets are exceptionally difficult to find on the second hand market, particularly designs like this that offer a more classic and comfortable silhouette compared to the brand’s more dramatic 1930s inspired slimmer cuts in antiqued leathers. If you are looking for a jacket in this style, this is quite simply the best you will find.

Condition

The leather is in great shape, with an incredible texture, rich patina, and a heavy natural shine. There are general marks across the surface, but these are intentional and characteristic of this heavily oiled leather, which is designed to develop a rugged and visually striking appearance with wear. The interior liner has seen some repairs, most notably around the underarm area and at the hanger loop. This was likely caused by a previous owner hanging the jacket from the interior chain, which eventually stressed the lining. All of this has been properly repaired and does not affect the wearability of the jacket in any way.

Restoration

The leather was already in great shape so I only applied a small amount of conditioner just to give it a bit more life and a shine. The inner liner has been carefully hand cleaned and steamed, along with all internal and external pockets. The metal hardware, including snaps, zippers and buttons, has been cleaned and polished to a shine. This piece is fully wearable and requires no further maintenance.
