Presented here is a stunning example of a custom made Thedi leather jacket. Thedi has long been known as a trailblazer in the leather jacket world, consistently refining vintage designs and producing some of the best cuts of our time. This jacket is a fully custom design unique to Thedi. It blends the clean, casual style of a single rider jacket, with its smaller collar and ribless cuffs and waist, with the relaxed versatility of a flight or bomber jacket.

The jacket features a beautiful single rider style collar with small snaps concealed underneath to keep it in place when needed, tapering into a sleek straight zip design finished with a large silver zipper that complements the jacket perfectly. At the waist are two open civilian style handwarmer pockets lined with a soft, thick acrylic blanket material, making them incredibly warm. At the back hem are button fasteners that allow the jacket to be slimmed, fitted with stunning brown patinated corozo nut buttons that contrast the leather beautifully. Above this is a full one piece back, while the underarms feature eyelets for ventilation and the cuffs include concealed storm cuffs to keep the wearer warm in foul weather.

The interior body liner is a thick, soft acrylic blanket, which in my opinion is the perfect choice for this jacket as it pairs exceptionally well with the supple leather. The sleeves are lined in a silky quilted satin for added warmth and comfort. As expected from Thedi, both underarms feature vented leather panels and all interior leather seams are finished in satin. There is also an interior storage pocket. The leather itself is a jet black Italian vegetable tanned sheepskin that develops beautiful creasing with wear and is an exceptionally comfortable choice for everyday use. It is refreshing to see this departure from the thicker horsehide or buffalo leather Thedi typically uses.

This jacket is an outstanding wearer and is easily the most comfortable jacket I have ever put on, making it ideal for everyday use. With the chosen lining, it also performs extremely well in colder weather, resulting in a very well rounded jacket overall. Thedi no longer produces this design, if bought today this would have to be a custom made jacket and i can only dream of what that would cost.

Thedi jackets are extremely difficult to find on the second hand market, especially designs like this that offer a more classic and comfortable silhouette compared to the brand’s more dramatic 1930s inspired cuts in heavier leathers. If you are looking for a jacket in this style, this is quite simply the best you will find.

Condition

The jacket is in fantastic shape with no noticeable wear to note.

Restoration

The leather was already in great shape so I only applied a small amount of conditioner just to give it a bit more life and a shine. The inner liner has been carefully hand cleaned and steamed, along with all internal and external pockets. The metal hardware, including snaps, zippers and buttons, has been cleaned and polished to a shine. This piece is fully wearable and requires no further maintenance.
